1) A Public Consultation on Genetic Testing

December 1, 1999 - January 31, 2000

The Secretary's Advisory Committee on Genetic Testing (SACGT) is seeking comments from the public on oversight and other issues relating to genetic testing, and we would welcome receiving your views. We are endeavoring to reach as broad an audience as possible and would appreciate your help in disseminating this request to others you think may have an interest in commenting on these issues.  In addition to this e-mail notice, SACGT is soliciting public comments through a mailing, a Federal Register notice, a web site (http://www4.od.nih.gov/oba/sacgt.htm), and a public meeting on January 27, 2000 in Baltimore, Maryland (http://www4.od.nih.gov/oba/sacgtpubmtg.htm).

3) Bioethics Internet Project

We are proud to announce the Newly Renovated Bioethics Internet Project at

http://www.bioethics.net

http://www.bioethics.net is the most-utilized, most advanced, bioethics resource on the Internet. Receiving as many as 600,000 hits per month from professionals, patients, students, and teachers around the world, the Center's Internet programs are creating a new way of thinking about communications and public education in bioethics.

4) PubCrawler - a free update alerting service for NCBI's PubMed and Genbank

PubCrawler is a free "alerting" service that scans daily updates to the NCBI Medline (PubMed) and GenBank databases. PubCrawler can keep scientists informed of the current contents of Medline and GenBank, by listing new database entries that match their research interests.

6) Funds for Functional Genomics

The Burroughs Wellcome Fund (BWF), an independent private foundation, recently announced a new grant opportunity: Innovation Awards in Functional Genomics. The stated goal of the program is to accelerate the integration of the vast amount of genomic sequence and expression data being generated into functional and clinically relevant information that will yield insights into mechanisms of human disease.
