HUM-MOLGEN events
Cardiovascular System Dynamics Society

CSDS , Baltimore, Maryland USA
September 14-17, 2000

The Cardiovascular System Dynamics Society or CSDS was founded in 1976 by a group of organ systems physiologists and biomedical engineers primarily interested in the study of heart-vascular mechanics and their interaction. Over the years, the society has extended its scope to include investigators of basic muscle and vascular biology, subcellular and sarcomeric dynamics, the microcirculation, cardiovascular pathobiology and clinical disease, and modeling. The overall emphasis remains on investiga tions of heart and vascular function mechanisms, with an eye towards helping understand how these features integrate to establish the performance of the overall cardiovascular system.

The new millennium has brought with it exciting new avenues of research, utilizing novel molecular manipulation and genetic technologies, miniaturized sensors, advanced imaging and microprocessor systems, to broaden the study of mechanical and hormonal signaling pathways, structure/function relationships, and system-level interaction. This has only increased the role of the cardiovascular physiologist who studies the impact of such manipulations and shows how they integrate to determine system-level performance.

The two days are organized into gross and then slightly less gross thematic subsections. Each of the two principal days will feature several keynote lectures, with each grouping oriented around a more focused theme. There will not be any simultaneous sessions.

The afternoons for each day will be dedicated to poster presentations providing adequate time and space for people to meet and discuss their research and any other issues they have on their mind. We want to emphasize that these poster sessions will be given equal emphasis to the morning oral presentations with respect to providing uninterrupted fully devoted time and space for scientific interactions between the participants.
